Point costs
A score of 8 costs nothing. 9 costs 1 point, 10 costs 2, 11 costs 3, 12 costs 4 and 13 costs 5; 14 costs 7 and 15 costs 9, so the last two steps cost 2 points each. You can’t buy above 15 or below 8 before bonuses. The + button greys out when you can’t afford the next step.
Add the bonuses from your race in the Bonus column; the total and modifier update as you go. When the scores are set, copy them into the character sheet.
Questions
What is the highest score point buy allows?
15 before racial bonuses, which a +2 bonus raises to 17.
Can I get three 15s?
No. Three 15s cost 27 points and leave the other three scores at 8, which is allowed; you can't afford a fourth.
Is the standard array the same as point buy?
The standard array, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, costs exactly 27 points, so it is one of the possible point-buy spreads.
