How the difficulty is worked out

Each character has an XP threshold for an easy, medium, hard and deadly fight at their level; the party’s thresholds are the sum. The monsters’ XP is added up and multiplied for their number: ×1 for one, ×1.5 for two, ×2 for three to six, ×2.5 for seven to ten, ×3 for eleven to fourteen and ×4 for fifteen or more. Parties of one or two use the next multiplier up, parties of six or more the next one down.

The adjusted total is compared with the thresholds. The XP each character earns for winning is the unadjusted total split evenly. Monsters you add from any monster card show up here and stay until you clear them.

Questions

What makes an encounter deadly?

Its adjusted XP reaches the party's deadly threshold. Several weak monsters can get there through the multiplier even when no single one is dangerous.

Does it work for a party of six or more?

Yes. Add up to ten characters; from six on, the multiplier steps down one row because a big party handles numbers better.

Can I print the monsters?

Print monster cards puts every monster in the encounter on its own card, sized to an index card.
